200 years, one month and one day ago (28 Nov 1811) Beethoven’s beloved Emperor Concerto had it’s premiere in Leipzig. The piece was enthusiastically received by the audience and the review in the Allgemeine Zeitung described it as” undoubtedly one of the most original, imaginative, effective but also the most difficult of all existing concertos.” […]

Spent a lovely afternoon in the Barbican Hall, choosing the piano I’ll be using for the Emperor concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on 29 Dec. How very exciting!

Just been invited to open the 2012 season at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester and another Royal Philharmonic Orchestra concert with Grieg concerto in Lincoln. That’s my 4th RPO concert in 6 months:-)

Double surprise this morning: passport returned with USA Visa for 10 years (!!!) and special delivery from Carnegie Hall at Andras Schiff’s request: beautiful leather covered copy of “My Father” by Peter Bartok. Cannot wait for Feb in New York!
